PDX Airport Terminal- Our Contribution
The newly revitalized main terminal at PDX emphasizes sustainability and connecting to nature. All the wood used throughout the terminal was sustainably harvested within 300 miles of the airport, embodying the Pacific Northwest’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Here at Trillium Pacific we are honored to be part of such a monumental project such as this PDX Airport terminal.
ZGF Architects truly excelled in bringing this vision to life, crafting a design that resonates deeply with the essence of our region. Each company involved played a pivotal role in making this project a success, ensuring that the final product not only stands as an architectural marvel but also as a testament to the power of collaboration.
From the R&D and manufacturing the Oregon White Oak wall cladding panels, to the milling and CNC work on the concessions grilles, and the milling of the 3″x3″ Seam Walls, we enjoyed every part and are very thankful for the partnerships and industry friends that brought us here.
Oregon White Oak Paneling
With a thick face veneer of Oregon White Oak, the added sustainability of Mass Plywood, and the high performance and durability of CLT, these panels are truly one of a kind. The specifications called for wide plank strips for the faces, which proved challenging due to the low availability of Oregon White Oak. As a result, narrower pieces that didn’t meet the requirements for this portion of the project were set aside. However, the project also included narrow herringbone flooring, which provided an opportunity to use those narrower boards.
Concession Stand Grilles
Partnering with a local Design Lab, we helped grade, mill and CNC the pieces for each of the 18 concession vendor spaces and common areas. These pieces of Douglas Fir 1×6 ranged in length from a few inches to 16 feet with holes that had to line up perfectly. LOOK UP when you visit to see these beautiful pieces.
Seam Wall
Partnering with the same Design Lab as the concession grilles, we graded and milled the Douglas Fir used for the Seam Wall. The Fir was then assembled into place.
