4 Architectural Applications for TorZo's FSC Recycled Panels
At Torzo Surfaces, we offer three distinct FSC Certified Recycled wood panels, each with its own visual character and material composition. Striata is made from recycled Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), Olympia from recycled plywood, and Pacifica from recycled Oriented Strand Board (OSB). While the materials differ, all three panels share the same ¾-inch Thin CLT construction, made with three equal, alternating layers. This cross-laminated construction creates a stable panel while also revealing the unique composition of the recycled wood. These panels can be used across a wide range of interior applications opening the door to possibilities beyond standard uses.
Wall cladding is one of the best opportunities to showcase these panels on a larger scale. Because of the way each material is manufactured, the panels have a strong visual texture and composition that can transform any space. Wall cladding doesn't have to mean covering an entire wall. These materials can be incorporated into corridors, feature walls, reception areas, entryways, and other focal points throughout a space. Panels can be manufactured up to 12 feet long for larger, uninterrupted surfaces or fabricated into smaller elements for applications such as wainscoting. The result is a surface that adds depth and visual interest through the natural character of the material itself.
Creating a connection between flooring and other wood elements is an important part of designing a cohesive interior. Carrying the same material language from a wall or staircase onto the floor can help create a sense of continuity throughout a space. Our FSC Recycled panels can be fabricated into tongue-and-groove floorboards, bringing their distinctive linear patterns, and unique texture to flooring while offering a practical installation method.Extending the use of recycled wood into flooring creates another opportunity to keep existing wood resources in productive use while introducing natural materials into high-visibility areas of a building.
A staircase is more than a way to move between floors. It can become one of the most visible architectural features in a space. Our FSC Recycled panels can be fabricated into individual stair treads or incorporated throughout a staircase to create a cohesive design. The cross-laminated construction provides stability, while exposed edges highlight the layers, grain direction, and character of the recycled wood. Whether used for individual treads, landings, or larger staircase components, the material offers an opportunity to transform a functional element into a prominent architectural feature.
Thicker applications offer another way to highlight what makes these materials unique. With thicknesses ranging from ¾″ to 4″, panels can be tailored to suit a variety of applications and design requirements. Tabletops, countertops, work surfaces, reception desks, and similar applications allow both the face and edge of the material to become visible. That edge detail can make a significant difference; rather than treating the side of a panel as something to conceal or requiring additional edge banding, the exposed layered construction becomes part of the finished look. This can be particularly effective when wood surfaces need to coordinate with surrounding elements, creating a thoughtful connection between materials while allowing the panel’s unique construction to remain visible.
What makes Striata, Olympia, and Pacifica interesting isn't simply that they're made from recycled wood materials, it's what those materials can become. Their construction allows the history and composition of the wood to remain visible rather than being hidden behind a uniform surface. LVL, plywood, and OSB each produce a different pattern, texture, and personality, giving designers three distinct ways to introduce warmth and material character into a space. Sometimes the most memorable part of a project isn’t a large architectural gesture, but the thoughtful material choices and small details that connect a space. With Torzo Surfaces' FSC recycled panels, those details become opportunities to make recycled material an intentional and visible part of the design.
